You want to help design and deliver better services. You have professional development goals that need to be met by a deadline.

Jumping Elephants offers three levels of internationally recognized UX-PM certification and each course will be run once in the next two months. Custom courses are available for teams. Here is how to prepare a convincing pitch to get your certification funded:

1. Choose the right course

Level 1: Adopting UX is for anyone who wants to understand user experience, adopt UX methodologies in their projects, and encourage a culture of human-centred design.

Level 2: Executing UX builds skills on the knowledge from Level 1 by advancing your understanding of best practices in user research methodologies, involving stakeholders to align the UX vision, and implementation using agile project management.

Level 3: Leading UX is for practitioners with experience leading a technology-based solution or service. Discover collaborative techniques, learn to measure change in Service Design and usability maturity models, and develop skills to build UX capacity in your own organization.

2. Make sure you are available

Participants will complete three half-days of virtual, interactive training for each level with an experienced UX practitioner. There will be an exam on the last day, but it’s open book and covered in the training. Find the upcoming training dates here.

3. Figure out how it fits in your performance management plan

Chances are, you have committed to professional development each year. Your contract may have details about how much money is set aside for you and how to access it. The challenge is to explain how the training will help you achieve the goals that you and your boss have already set.

4. Do your homework

Gather up all the information you will need in one place; your contract, your professional development plan, and details about the course you want to take. Making a compelling case for yourself is important, so be ready to explain three things:

  1. Why your boss should invest in your professional development, specifically UX-PM Training

  2. Why this course is the right fit for your next steps

  3. Why they should invest now rather than later

5. Ask for help!

You have peers who have done this successfully so ask around; hopefully, they will share their best tips. Once you have prepared your case, feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
