Well, I’m very proud to say that I did it. I got up and spoke as the headliner for the 2013-2014 CapCHI season opener this year!

The event, held September 17, 2013 at 6pm at the Fox and Feather pub in Ottawa, was the first of the monthly CapCHI meetups to be held in the 2013-2014 year and a whole new exciting lineup for the CapCHI team.

My talk focused on using formulas and research and discovery methods taken straight out of the writing industry to develop a better understanding of your users and the context in which they are using your products or services.

With a bit of humour, I took the audience on a journey to uncovering the five Ws and an H of user experience design and worked through how asking 6 simple questions could enable designers to build incrementally more effective solutions, all the while demonstrating better returns for clients and better experiences for all the users involved.

This was my very first speaking engagement, but it will not be my last. I received great feedback from the audience and am going to work on refining the talk for the 2014 year.

I want to thank the CapCHI team for offering me the opportunity of a life time and to thank everyone who attended for cheering me on, keeping engaged, asking great questions and offering wonderful support. You are all fantastic!
